About the Role

The University of California, Irvine is seeking a skilled Radiation Safety Officer to join our team. As a key member of our Environmental Health and Safety department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe handling and use of radiation in our research and academic programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement radiation safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure radiation safety practices are being followed.
  • Provide training and guidance to researchers and staff on radiation safety procedures and protocols.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure radiation safety is integrated into all aspects of our operations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and other stakeholders to ensure compliance and stay up-to-date on changing regulations.

Requirements
  • 5-10 years of experience in radiation safety, with a strong background in radiation protection and regulatory compliance.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as health physics or nuclear engineering.
  • Master's degree in health physics or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
