Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Representative to join our team at HealthCare Support. As a Patient Access Representative, you will be responsible for performing scheduling, registration, patient pre-admission and admission, reception and discharge functions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for duties in support of departmental efficiencies, including scheduling, registration, patient pre-admission and admission, reception and discharge functions.
  • Resolve physician's office and patient issues in a professional and courteous manner.
  • May experience extreme patient volumes and uncooperative patients.
  • Must obtain complete and accurate patient demographic information.
  • Greet customers following Conifer Standards of Care and provide world-class customer service.
  • Complete full patient registration at date of service and adhere to financial and cash control policies and procedures.
  • Thoroughly explain and secure hospital and patient legal forms, including Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, Consent for Treatment, and Important Message from Medicare.
  • Scan protected health information and create and file patient information packets/folders for upcoming hospital services.
  • May also assist with scheduling diagnostic procedures, including entering data in scheduling systems and providing customers with appointment instructions.
  • Educate patients about patient financial liabilities and employ proper and compliant patient liability collection techniques before, during, and after date of service.
  • Perform hospital cash reconciliation and secure payment entry in adherence to financial and cash control policies and procedures.
  • Secure medical necessity checks/verification in accordance with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and verify insurance, benefits, coverage, and eligibility.
  • Complete assigned registration financial clearance work lists activities and obtain insurance authorizations for scheduled and unscheduled hospital services.
  • Secure inpatient visit notification to payors and may also assist with scheduling and coordinating post-discharge care for patients.
Requirements:
  • 1+ year of experience in a customer service role.
  • 1+ year of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related area.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 35 WPM typing speed.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to perform essential job duties in at least two patient access service areas, including the Emergency Department.
  • Uses proper negotiation techniques to professionally collect money owed by patients/guarantors.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Some college coursework.
  • Understanding of third-party payor requirements.
