Job Overview
This role is designed for an experienced land surveying professional who will oversee and/or direct a field survey team, utilize surveying instruments, and gather data in various environments. The position involves field quality assurance, office data processing, and comprehensive survey computations, along with creating TINs and surfaces, and final mapping using AutoCAD. This is a full-time opportunity that combines fieldwork, office tasks, and supervisory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage field survey teams, ensuring effective scheduling and coordination of daily operations.
  • Conduct various types of surveys including boundary, topographic, and design surveys, as well as aerial mapping control.
  • Expertly operate and calibrate survey instruments such as digital levels, GPS devices, and total stations.
  • Maintain precise field notes and sketches, and perform necessary reductions.
  • Identify and mitigate potential measurement errors.
  • Execute mathematical calculations and validate field data.
  • Perform data processing and calculations using specialized survey software and AutoCAD.
  • Oversee project management tasks including quality assurance and client communication.
  • Conduct thorough quality control checks on project deliverables.
  • Engage in project research and prepare legal descriptions as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and safety protocols.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to the survey team.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities that contribute to departmental success.

Qualifications
  • Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor is mandatory; Alaska registration must be achieved within a specified timeframe after hiring.
  • A minimum of five years of surveying and mapping experience is required, with at least two years in remote locations.
  • Proficiency in using total stations, GPS receivers, and related software is essential.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and demonstrated skills in survey drafting are required.
  • Ability to interpret survey drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of monumentation and staking principles is beneficial.
  • Competence in MS Word and Excel is necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are vital.
  • Reliability and punctuality are crucial for this role.
  • Willingness to travel as needed is expected.
  • Position level will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CFedS certification is a plus.
  • Experience in hydrographic surveying is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with right-of-way mapping and parcel drafting is preferred.
  • Experience in project management is desirable.

Work Environment
This position primarily involves indoor work in a standard office setting, with occasional outdoor fieldwork. Employees may need to lift up to 25 lbs and engage in various physical activities. Travel may be required to remote locations, necessitating the use of various transportation methods.
