About the Role

The Brookings Institution seeks a seasoned leader to serve as the Executive Vice President and Director of Governance and Democracy Studies. This is a unique opportunity to shape the national discourse on democracy and governance, and to contribute to the success of one of the most influential think tanks in the world.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic direction and vision for the Governance and Democracy Studies program, aligning with the overall mission and goals of the Brookings Institution.
  • Research and Policy Engagement: Foster a culture of rigorous research and policy engagement, ensuring that the program's work is timely, relevant, and impactful.
  • Collaboration and Partnerships: Build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues across the institution, as well as with external partners and stakeholders.
  • Fundraising and Development: Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support the program's research and operations.
  • Staff Management: Lead and manage a team of researchers, analysts, and support staff, providing guidance, mentorship, and opportunities for growth and development.
Requirements
  • Experience: 15+ years of professional experience in a leadership role, with a strong track record of managing research programs, teams, and budgets.
  • Expertise: A deep understanding of governance and democracy issues, with a strong background in research, policy analysis, and program management.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and manage teams, build coalitions, and drive change.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and strategies to diverse audiences.
  • Collaboration: A strong ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
