Maintenance Mechanic Job Description

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for maintaining plant equipment and property, performing new installs, repairs, and maintenance tasks as directed by the Chief Engineer. The successful candidate will ensure the operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following engineering specifications, and adhering to manufacturer's instructions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Locate and diagnose problems with mechanical devices, using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Remove and replace defective parts, using hoists and hand and power tools.
  • Determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts, inspecting used parts and using measuring instruments.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments, using hand tools and precision instruments.
  • Control downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques and monitoring compliance.
  • Fabricate repair parts using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
  • Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories, checking stock levels and anticipating needed equipment and supplies.
  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Prepare mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Perform morning start-up and/or evening shutdown of all equipment, including boilers, pumps, air compressors, and other plant equipment.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Experience working on machinery, electrical, plumbing, welding, carpentry, and boiler applications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot from operation manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and electrical schematics at a basic level.
  • Must have hand tools and power tool experience.
  • Must be able to walk or stand for long periods, handle maintenance tasks, and lift, push, or pull 50 lbs or more.
Working Conditions:

Some exposure to extreme degrees of heat, noise, dust, and dirt. All employees must be fully vaccinated.
