Position Summary:
The EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) & RM (Risk Management) Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting the Senior Manager/Director and fostering EHS excellence at the operational level. This role is centered on steering EHS&RM compliance and aiding in the execution of EHS&RM initiatives, practices, and security strategies to attain outstanding performance. The incumbent is tasked with cultivating a safe working environment and deploying effective EHS&RM programs that align with Corporate EHS&RM, enabling the site to proficiently identify and mitigate risks.
This position reports directly to the Senior Manager/Director of EHS&RM, who in turn reports to the Senior EHS&RM Director.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic oversight and direction, in alignment with Corporate EHS & Risk Management, addressing environmental, occupational health, safety, industrial hygiene, occupational medical, and security matters.
- Ensure adherence to multidisciplinary groups and EHS programs in compliance with federal, provincial, state, local regulations, and internal standards to promote continuous improvement and a workplace free of incidents.
- Assist with safety-related regulatory compliance issues and contribute to the updating and implementation of company and divisional safety policies and standards.
- Support the analysis, preparation, and maintenance of mandatory/regulatory safety and environmental reports/records through the EHS&RM Data Management System.
· Lead cross-functional teams to address EHS and security issues at the site, formulating proposals for strategic and tactical responses, and advising site leadership on impacts and mitigation strategies.
· Implement an incident investigation methodology aligned with corporate EHS & Risk Management to ensure thorough investigations and identification of root causes for incidents.
· Collaborate with the Site Leadership Team, supervisors, and employees to drive the site towards zero incidents related to environmental and employee health & safety. Analyze incident data to pinpoint trends and preventable incident types.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of site regulatory and internal reporting. Monitor site metrics and implement programs to address negative trends.
- Act as the site EHS liaison for relevant regulatory agencies and internal organizations, fostering cross-functional relationships with site FSQ, Engineering, and Maintenance teams.
- Engage in the EHS & Risk Management network, representing the site in communities, conferences, and audits to develop and implement consistent EHS programs and practices across the organization.
- Support Worker's Compensation loss control programs and related reporting requirements.
- Assist in updating and revising Plant Safety Programs as necessary.
- Ensure injured employees receive timely medical care by accompanying them to medical provider visits.
- Participate in Safety and Environmental Divisional Meetings.
- Coordinate the Plant Safety Committee.
- Support Environmental, Health, and Safety Policies and Practices.
- Address Safety and Environmental issues in the absence of the EHS Manager.
- Update and test Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Procedures on all equipment annually.
- Ensure all First Aid Supplies are adequately stocked.
- Become First Responder Certified every two years.
- Ensure all Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are tested and compliant monthly.
- Conduct the Safety Portion of New Hire Orientation.
- Manage the Safety Shoe Voucher Program.
- Oversee the Prescription Safety Glass Voucher Program.
- Assist in facilitating the Near Miss Program.
- Support Environmental Audits, both internal and external.
- Conduct Plan, Do, Check, and Act Investigations for all reported injuries.
- Utilize Data Management Software to log audits, task completion, injury records, etc.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in safety orientations for new employees.
- Administer the plant hearing conservation program and annual audiometric testing.
- Conduct industrial hygiene monitoring and equipment maintenance.
- Support plant EHS Audits.
- Maintain Brady Lock Pro (LOTO Instructions) for all machinery plant-wide.
- Manage the Plant Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Program using Sphera.
- Update and maintain Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Records.
· Mentor and coach new EHS&RM leaders, providing support and guidance.
· Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for EHS programs, assisting EHS Leaders with compliance.
· Act as a systems trainer for EHS&RM tools.
· Lead Lock Out/Tagout activities as the technical lead.
· Share best practices between sites.
· Conduct Round Table review calls with EHS Leaders.
· Perform site visits as needed to assist with program rollout, hazard mitigation, completion of Program Element Assessments, and internal audits.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Minimum education required: B.S. in a Scientific, Engineering, or technical discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Trained subject matter expertise familiar with OSHA/EPA regulations.
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
- Skilled in leading strategic initiatives, planning, and change management.
- Knowledgeable in OSHA's Process Safety Management and/or EPA's Risk Management Plan Standards.
- Technical EHS skills: behavior-based principles, engineering, hazard recognition, risk assessment, and worker compensation administration.
- Leadership capabilities.
- Business and financial acumen.
- Strategic planning skills.
- General understanding of production processes, equipment, and systems typically found in a manufacturing environment.
- Effective coaching, facilitation, presentation, team building, and leadership skills.
- Experience with environmental management information systems (EMIS) and support software preferred.
