Job Summary

The State of Hawaii is seeking a highly skilled Motor Carrier Safety Officer to join our team. As a Motor Carrier Safety Officer, you will be responsible for enforcing laws related to commercial vehicles, including regulations relating to vehicle registration, safety, and weight limits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct investigations, inspections, and compliance surveys to ensure commercial vehicles are operating safely and in compliance with regulations.
  • Enforce laws and regulations related to commercial vehicles, including vehicle registration, safety, and weight limits.
  • Provide formal and on-the-job training to new employees on motor carrier safety rules and regulations, inspection practices, and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • One (1) year of work experience demonstrating knowledge of arithmetic, including multiplication and division, and the ability to read, understand, and explain rules and regulations.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds assisted by another person and/or use of equipment.
  • Valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
  • State's Measuremaster License or ability to obtain within the 6-month probationary period.
