Job Summary

The University of California, Davis Health is seeking a highly skilled Medical Office Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and administrative support to our patients and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Infusion Services Authorizations: Coordinate with patients, physicians, and insurance companies to obtain necessary authorizations for infusion services.
  • Resource to Cancer Center Infusion Authorization Coordinators: Provide guidance and support to our Cancer Center Infusion Authorization Coordinators to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Denial Management: Analyze and resolve denied claims to minimize financial losses and ensure timely payment.
  • Financial Determination: Determine patient eligibility for financial assistance programs and provide guidance on billing and insurance matters.
  • Department Support: Provide administrative support to our healthcare team, including scheduling appointments, maintaining patient records, and performing other administrative tasks.
  • Complex Service Line Support: Provide specialized support to our complex service lines, including chemotherapy and infusion services.
Requirements
  • Two (2) years of experience in coding and/or obtaining authorizations for infusion services.
  • Knowledge and experience of medical office procedures, including medical terminology, appointments, medical records, insurance verification, cashiering, and billing.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills that reflect the ability to serve as a coordinator of a specified unit of workers.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to written policies and procedures, including department, Health System, and University-level policies.
  • Ability to efficiently use computer system applications for all functions required for this position, including electronic mail, spreadsheets, word processing, and medical office management.
  • Filing skills to maintain logs and files of information in alphabetical, chronological, and/or numerical order, such that it is current and easily retrievable.
  • Knowledge of health care insurance systems, including Medi-Cal, MediCare, HMO, PPO, fee-for-service, county-funded coverage, and workers' compensation.
  • Knowledge of ICD-9, CPT, and HCPCS coding sufficient to identify services performed, including diagnoses, procedures, and supplies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Professional Coder-Apprentice (CPC-A)
Work Environment
  • This position requires the ability to lift items weighing 5 to 25 pounds throughout the medical office. Requires ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
