Job Overview

Under the guidance of the Chief Housekeeper, the Housekeeping Attendant is responsible for ensuring that a designated number of passenger cabins, officer quarters, communal spaces, and work areas are kept in pristine condition and serviced promptly. These areas should be equipped with necessary supplies, company materials, and amenities to ensure the complete satisfaction of both passengers and crew members, consistently exceeding their expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Introduce yourself to passengers and outline the services you will provide throughout their journey.
  • Familiarize yourself with passenger names in your assigned area and use them in daily greetings and conversations.
  • Maintain safe and sanitary conditions at all times, adhering to all relevant guidelines and regulations.
  • Thoroughly clean passenger and officer cabins daily, including private balconies.
  • Report any maintenance issues identified in your assigned cabins or public areas promptly.
  • Efficiently stock and manage cleaning carts as per instructions.
  • Ensure that designated information and amenities are placed in passenger cabins appropriately.
  • Stay informed about cruise events and programs to effectively respond to passenger inquiries.
  • Assist in the removal of room service items from passenger cabins to designated locations, ensuring they are not left in public areas.
  • Help manage circulating inventory, including linens and toiletries, and store soiled items according to established policies.
  • Clean corridors, carpets, and change light bulbs in assigned areas as directed.
  • Support fellow crew members in their duties as needed to achieve collective service goals.
  • Maintain professionalism and courtesy in all interactions with passengers, colleagues, and management.
  • Participate in monthly inventory checks as assigned, which may include assessing maintenance needs.
  • Depending on the vessel, assist in other areas of the Housekeeping department, such as Laundry or Porter services.
  • Attend all meetings scheduled by the Chief Housekeeper or senior management.
  • Read and adhere to all memos and directives issued by management.
  • Engage in all mandated drills and emergency procedures as directed.
  • Participate in embarking duties, including loading and unloading luggage as required.
  • Perform additional tasks as necessary, as the above duties represent a typical workday but may not encompass every responsibility.

Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent Required.

Professional Certifications:

Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) if applicable, and/or ability to obtain and maintain.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with individuals at all levels.
  • Capability to logically plan, organize, and complete work assignments independently.
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.

Experience:

Two to four years of experience in a similar role is required; experience in the cruise industry is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must pass mandated physical examinations.
  • Ability to meet and maintain a maximum onboard bunk bed capacity of 300 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a marine environment with potential confined spaces and varying conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated.
