Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Director of Design Engineering to lead our CAD team in Devens, MA. This is a hybrid remote position that requires the ability to work 3 days on-site in Devens, MA.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Lead a large CAD team (40+) of top NX users in the country, providing guidance and direction to ensure operational and technical excellence.
  • Hiring and Development: Hire and develop outstanding CAD designers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with project leaders to understand CAD needs, plan, organize, and manage team work accordingly.
  • Process Development: Create workflows, processes, metrics, and delivery goals for the team, ensuring alignment with project needs and company objectives.
  • CAD Standards: Establish and maintain clear CAD design standards, ensuring they are aligned with project requirements and company best practices.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure released drawings and models are correct and of high quality, meeting company standards and customer expectations.
  • Database Management: Manage the Product design database, maintaining accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Team Performance: Drive the team to meet deadlines, promoting a culture of accountability and results-oriented work.
  • Technical Expertise: Work with other engineering team leaders to resolve technical issues, recommending best practices for solutions that meet customer needs.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar engineering discipline).
  • Experience: 10+ years of design experience in a product development environment, with strong 3D design skills (preferably using NX).
  • Design Skills: Design for production and installation of tightly tolerance large structural components, with experience in complex dynamic assemblies.
  • Leadership Experience: 3+ years of supervisory experience with at least 10 individuals.
  • CAD Tools: Experience with CAD design tools such as NX, Solidworks, Creo, etc.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to clearly express and critique ideas, with attention to detail and an emphasis on elegance and simplicity over complexity.
  • Manufacturing Knowledge: Understanding of manufacturing methods and their impact on designs, with a drive towards commercially viable solutions.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Teamcenter Power User: Experience with Teamcenter, a product lifecycle management (PLM) system.
  • GDT Experience: In-depth experience with GDT (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Ultra-High Vacuum Experience: Experience designing for ultra-high vacuum environments.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally, with the ability to perform activities such as typing, standing, sitting, etc. for extended periods of time.
  • Travel and Flexibility: Willingness to travel occasionally and/or work extended hours as necessary.
