Power Plant Operations Specialist

Ameresco is seeking a highly skilled Power Plant Specialist to join our team at the Tufts University Central Energy Plant in Medford, Massachusetts. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the facility, as well as maintaining compliance with relevant regulations and permits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Thrive in a safety-centric team culture and drive continuous safety improvement throughout the organization.
- Report incidents, support investigations, and take corrective action to prevent future occurrences.
- Operate and maintain the facility in compliance with permits and regulations.
- Build a compliance and environmentally conscious team to ensure the facility's operations align with Ameresco's values.
- Maintain a proactive equipment maintenance plan to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.
- Coordinate contractors and perform maintenance activities efficiently to meet the facility's needs.
- Oversee planned maintenance outages and manage records to ensure compliance and transparency.
- Identify upgrades for safety and facility reliability to improve overall performance.
- Respond to and manage plant issues beyond regular hours to ensure the facility's continued operation.
- Support the Regional Manager in budgeting and cost management to ensure the facility's financial sustainability.
- Propose cost reduction strategies without compromising safety or production to optimize the facility's performance.
- Maintain operator qualification and training programs to ensure the team's expertise and knowledge.
- Review and revise plant standard operating procedures to ensure they align with the facility's needs and Ameresco's values.
- Handle material orders, schedule deliveries, and approve invoices to ensure the facility's operational needs are met.
- Cultivate positive relationships with the Customer to ensure their needs are met and exceeded.
- Review reports for accuracy and assist in special projects to ensure the facility's continued success.
Requirements:
- High School graduate or GED.
- Minimum of 5 years of direct experience with operation and maintenance in an industrial setting.
- Experience in power generation, boiler operation, district steam heating, and chilled water system operations.
- Valid US driver's license required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Formal and relevant technical training through military service, trade school, industrial experience, or technical training schools desired.
- Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering or technical discipline a plus.
- Must have a working knowledge of reading and interpreting system drawings and/or P&IDs.
- Applicable military and merchant marine experience is highly valued.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook a plus.
- Working knowledge of Maximo CMMS a plus.
- Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills.
