Job Summary:
Jackson County is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Airport Operations & Maintenance Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and monitoring airport operations activities and skilled airfield maintenance, including repair, maintenance, and construction of buildings, property, and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect and evaluate airfield lighting, sign systems, pavement surfaces, and safety areas in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other applicable regulations.
- Monitor weather conditions in support of identifying, reporting, and removal of surface contaminants in accordance with the Runway Condition Assessment Matrix (RCAM) Protocol or other applicable regulations.
- Determine when mitigation operations are necessary to address airfield conditions.
- Issue aerodrome, apron, obstruction, runway, and taxiway Notices to Airmen (NOTAM) directly into the Federal NOTAM System using NOTAM Manager.
- Perform wildlife management mitigation, including lethal takes, in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair air traffic control tower systems, including voice switch components, windspeed indicator, lighting control panel, and airport beacon.
- Oversee the work of contractors, ensuring compliance with established specifications, schedules, and safety regulations.
- Perform lead worker duties, including maintaining control of incidents until a supervisor is notified, monitoring performance and behaviors in the field, and reporting work progress, challenges, incidents, and accidents.
- Adhere to regulatory requirements, collective bargaining agreements, County, and departmental policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain effective internal and external working relationships at all levels.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant advanced skilled construction or facilities maintenance experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides the desired skills, knowledge, and ability.
- Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
- Possession of a Limited Maintenance Electrician License (LME) or Building Maintenance Electrician License (BME) is preferred.
- Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) Journeyman Card is preferred.
- Ability to interpret rules, regulations, advisory circulars, directives, and other forms of mandate or guidance relative to federal, state, and local regulations.
- Ability to quickly evaluate and make complex decisions independently involving the closure of a runway or other aircraft surface in accordance with established protocols.
- Ability to comprehend and facilitate the issuance of NOTAMs.
