About the Role

Astrolab is seeking a highly skilled Senior Simulation Engineer to lead the development and maintenance of cutting-edge simulation software for the FLEX rover. As a key member of our cross-disciplinary team, you will drive the development of simulations for vehicle dynamics, terrain interaction, sensor performance, and environmental factors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain simulation software for the FLEX rover using modern tools and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary engineering teams to simulate rover systems, including vehicle dynamics, terrain interaction, sensor performance, and environmental factors.
  • Define and implement technical performance requirements for rover simulation models to support testing, operational planning, and mission validation.
  • Perform detailed analysis of rover performance in various environments, simulating mobility, sensor behavior, and thermal effects to validate rover design.
  • Contribute to developing new rover simulation concepts, evaluating designs, and providing critical feedback for improvement.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to document designs, analysis, and results while preparing presentations for both internal teams and external partners.
  • Support the full lifecycle of simulation projects, from concept development to system testing and deployment in real-world mission environments.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in system modeling and simulation, preferably focused on planetary vehicles or rovers.
  • Proficient in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar tools for developing and validating simulation models.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in areas like rover mobility, sensor integration, terrain analysis, and environmental interactions.
  • Effective collaborator across engineering teams with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts.
