Automation Control Specialist

Position Overview
As an Automation Control Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in the design and implementation of control systems. Your responsibilities will encompass:
- Collaborating with project managers and estimators to evaluate potential projects and prepare proposals.
- Interpreting technical diagrams and documentation while engaging with clients to ascertain their objectives and preferences.
- Formulating the architecture and communication strategies between various control system components.
- Defining and documenting control system functionalities in partnership with customers and stakeholders.
- Creating Bills of Materials (BOMs), Input/Output (IO) lists, and specifications for control panels.
- Leading small projects as the technical expert, including the development of PLC and HMI templates.
- Programming PLCs using Ladder Logic, Function Block, and other programming languages.
- Designing Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) to enhance user interaction.
- Drafting hardware and software testing plans and writing simulation logic for PLC and HMI systems.
- Developing training materials and plans for operations and maintenance personnel.
- Coordinating with installation management to ensure adherence to documented processes.
- Conducting system tests to verify functionality and ensure program accuracy.
- Troubleshooting issues during startup related to documentation discrepancies, customer changes, or technical challenges.
- Diagnosing and resolving software and hardware interface problems.
- Providing training to clients on the operation of specific system integration software.
- Collaborating with manufacturers and vendors for problem resolution.
- Addressing design challenges as necessary and mentoring junior staff.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Industrial Controls within the engineering or construction sectors.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in PLC programming, particularly with Allen Bradley systems.
- Proficiency in various PLC programming languages, including Ladder Logic and Function Block.
- Familiarity with networking protocols such as Ethernet/IP and experience with HMIs.
Preferred Skills
Additional qualifications that would be advantageous include:
- 6 years of experience in the architectural, engineering, or construction industries.
- Expertise in Rockwell Automation hardware and software.
- Familiarity with Aveva System Platform (Wonderware) and AutoCAD software.
