UPMC Presbyterian is seeking a dedicated Surgical Technology Instructor to enhance their Surgical Technologist Training Program. This full-time role operates Monday through Friday, primarily focusing on educational delivery in both classroom and practical lab environments.

Role Overview:
The Surgical Technology Instructor is entrusted with the critical responsibility of imparting surgical technology education. This position involves guiding students through their training program, ensuring they acquire the essential knowledge and skills necessary for entry-level positions in the field. The instructor must possess the expertise and pedagogical skills required to evaluate, plan, and execute effective educational programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster and sustain productive relationships within the organization and with external partners by building teams and promoting positive communication. Acknowledge the contributions of others, listen actively, and maintain transparency in all communications.
  • Utilize diverse instructional methods, including classroom teaching and hands-on lab sessions, to create an engaging learning environment for students.
  • Ensure that all students receive comprehensive instruction to meet the learning objectives outlined in their program of study.
  • Prepare instructional materials and equipment for student use, ensuring they are well-maintained and ready prior to class.
  • Actively engage in departmental meetings, analyze assessment data, compile reports, and adhere to academic and administrative timelines.
  • Embrace constructive feedback and mentorship roles for new staff and preceptors, contributing to their success and development.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to professional growth by participating in performance improvement initiatives and self-assessment.
  • Exhibit awareness of the impact of personal behavior on departmental efficiency and organizational success, approaching challenges with innovative problem-solving strategies.
  • Possess an Associate's Degree.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist or Registered Nurse First Assistant is required.
  • Relevant teaching experience is essential.
  • A minimum of four years of experience as a Surgical Technologist or Scrub Technician is necessary.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse (for RN).
  • Certification as a Registered Nurse First Assistant or Certified Surgical First Assistant, or Certified Surgical Technologist.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is required.
