Position Overview

Role Summary

The MRI Imaging Specialist is responsible for conducting magnetic resonance imaging examinations on patients as per the directives of referring physicians. This role involves managing patient flow and overseeing the operational activities of the MRI Scanner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verifies patient records or prescriptions to ensure the correct examination is conducted.
  • Coordinates MRI procedures with various departments and healthcare providers.
  • Maintains accurate documentation in patient logs and scan sheets.
  • Exhibits utmost care while gathering medical histories and reasons for examinations to ensure patient safety and protect MRI equipment.
  • Adheres to hospital protocols for patient identification prior to performing any imaging procedures.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions to the shift supervisor and ensures MRI equipment is kept clean and organized.
  • Commits to ongoing education to remain informed about advancements in MRI technology.
  • Monitors patients in the MRI scanner, collaborating with nursing staff when necessary.
  • Operates the MRI scanner to generate high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Conducts scans efficiently to minimize patient wait times.
  • Inputs and transmits patient data to the PACS system promptly after completing examinations.
Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Completion of an MRI training program or a minimum of 3 years of experience as an MRI Technologist.
  • Active certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-MR) or the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT), to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Current certification in CPR from the American Heart Association, to be maintained throughout employment.

Skills and Competencies

  • Preferred experience of at least 1 year as an MRI technologist.
  • Familiarity with the location and functions of emergency equipment.
  • Knowledge in specialized areas such as cardiac and fetal imaging is advantageous.
  • Experience working in an operating room environment is preferred.
  • Ability to interact positively and constructively with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Problem-solving skills and adaptability to meet individual patient needs.
  • Ability to interpret situations and respond calmly under pressure.
