Summary: As a Medical Care Specialist, you will serve as a leader of the healthcare team by establishing an authentic personalized relationship with the patient and their chosen support system. You will collaborate with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate an individualized plan of care that promotes optimal health.

Patient Care: This role requires you to act with patient advocacy when implementing the interdisciplinary plan of care. You will work collaboratively with the healthcare team to educate the patient and their support system. You will analyze, modify, and implement strategies to progress the patient through their plan of care, ensuring completion of nursing interventions, medical orders, and other related therapies. Additionally, you will prioritize job duties according to patients' needs and changing acuity levels.

Communication: Consistently utilizing appropriate communication tools is essential for this role when communicating within the interdisciplinary team and when handing off patient care. You will communicate individualized plans of care to the patient and their chosen support system. Effective communication tools such as Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation, and Question (SBARQ) are used to communicate more effectively. Information must be documented in a timely manner.

Teamwork: Developing and maintaining positive relationships with team members/internal customers is crucial for efficient treatment of patients. You will develop team members through mentoring, precepting, orientation, and providing feedback. Conflicts will be resolved independently, as appropriate. Acceptance of responsibility for actions and responsiveness to feedback from others is expected.

Medical Knowledge: Demonstrated medical skills are required to provide required patient care. Operating various equipment, including portable cardiac monitors, bedside commodes, etc., is necessary for this role. Routine nursing care such as starting IVs, performing dressing changes, etc., must be provided for multiple patients in a timely manner. In critical situations, CPR administration may be required. Medication therapies will be administered and evaluated, patient transfers will be assisted, and patients will be transported via wheelchair, hospital bed, or stretcher to other departments.

Qualifications: A graduate degree from an accredited School of Nursing is required. A 4-Year/Bachelor's Degree is preferred. One year of relevant experience is preferred. Current RN licensure in the applicable state is required. CPI certification within three months of hire is required for Behavioral Health, Emergency Department, and Central Staffing and Scheduling Office (CSSO). The ability to perform basic nursing skills on groups of patients and assume charge responsibility is necessary. Multitasking and prioritizing quickly are also essential. Ability to administer medication utilizing the five rights and communicate verbally and in written form are required. Basic computer knowledge is needed. Safely and effectively caring for all patient populations presenting to the department is essential.

Physical Demands: Constant standing, frequent walking, and bending/stooping are requirements for this role. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills are necessary. Attention to detail and the ability to write legibly are expected. Lifting/pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs. is necessary. For any weight over 35 lbs., Safe Handling Equipment must be used.

We estimate the annual salary for this position to be around $84,000 - $105,000 based on industry standards and location factors.
