Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Assistant Manager, Patient Care-Oncology 3B to join our team at Northwell Health. This role is responsible for providing leadership and direction to a direct care unit or units, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the nurse manager in implementing the strategic plan through effective communication with team members.
  • Participate in the interviewing, hiring, coaching, and counseling of staff.
  • Develop and sustain relationships with team members, patients, and families based on trust, respect, and inclusion.
  • Uphold Northwell Health's Culture of C.A.R.E. by creating a culture of connectedness, awareness, respect, and empathy.
  • Inspire and motivate team members by modeling leadership and professional behaviors that embody Northwell Health's mission, vision, and values.
  • Ensure team members utilize best practices that are patient-centered and champion a just culture where staff feel safe to utilize tools in TeamSTEPPS.
  • Support employee engagement for the unit as a priority and execute and monitor goals and action plans that promote team pride and a healthy work environment.
  • Demonstrate core clinical competencies for the patient population of oversight to provide direct care as a key component of the role.
  • Remain current on knowledge of population health, scope and standards of practice, professionalism, and healthcare legislation, working closely with the NM to inform staff.
  • Support frontline staff inclusion in change forums and projects that impact their practice.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge and competencies of business needs for day-to-day operations on the unit.
  • Assure day-to-day staffing and resources are planned for and reconciled for the shift of oversight and explain and mitigate variances.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
  • 4-6 years of technical experience and 0-2 years of leadership/management experience, required.
  • Current Oncology Nurse Certification in New York State required.
