Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Assembler II to join our team at Powell Industries. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for assembling mechanical components for Switchgear and/or Breaker units according to engineering drawings and customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble mechanical components for Switchgear and/or Breaker units using master copy, spec sheet, front elevation, and WO files.
  • Perform maintenance and proper use of tools.
  • Conduct in-process inspections to ensure quality and identify potential risks to product quality.
  • Perform ship prep functions, including splitting gear.
  • Assist in Root Cause Analysis on engineering changes and correct discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with a small team of employees to complete assigned tasks.
  • Perform mechanical adjustments for switchgear.
  • Promote a safety culture and attend all safety meetings.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or General Education Equivalent Diploma.
  • 2-4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and perform conversions.
  • Basic command of the English language, both written and verbal.
  • Basic knowledge of operating a desktop computer.
  • Safe use of hand/power tools.
  • Lift up to 50lbs using proper lifting techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BASIC MES system knowledge, Oracle preferred.
  • Prior experience in building or repairing mechanical components.
Skills and Abilities
  • Read and understand spec sheets and follow proper use of hardware by spec requirements.
  • Able to read and understand single and three-line drawings, including symbols.
  • Able to read and have an understanding of Engineering Change Orders.
  • Ability to identify part discrepancies and properly write HFDs for corrections.
  • Knowledge of mechanical drawings and designs.
  • Ability to follow direction from Senior Assemblers and Lead Assemblers.
  • Effectively demonstrates on-time delivery and the ability to stay focused on goals and responsibilities.
  • Self-starter with ability to take on multiple tasks with a drive to succeed.
  • Challenges the status quo; looks for better or more efficient ways to get results.
  • Ability to adapt to new ideas, technology, processes, or product changes.

Working and Environmental Conditions
  • Safety-sensitive position in a temperature-controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and respirators when required.
  • Must be able to work from all types of ladders and elevated structures using proper lift equipment and Fall Protection Equipment.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs or step ladders.
  • Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction.
  • Continuous standing and walking.
  • Able to use upper extremities frequently, work with both arms above shoulders, and use both arms at full length frequently.
  • Must be able to meet physical lifting demands up to 50lbs.
  • Frequent use of hand tools and power tools.
