Job Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for leading our accounting operations, ensuring timely and accurate financial information. This role reports to the Chief of Finance & Human Resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee monthly closing process and generate initial financial reports for review by the Chief of Finance and HR.
  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and general ledger in collaboration with the Accounting and Grants Associate.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports in accordance with GAAP and non-profit accounting standards.
  • Coordinate annual audit preparation and provide supporting documentation to external auditors and/or regulatory agencies.
  • Support development of the annual budget process and monitor spending against budget through variance analysis.
  • Maintain effective internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard the organization's assets and ensure compliance with donor and grant requirements.
  • Meet with members of the Senior Leadership Team to review financial information.
  • Support fundraising and development efforts, preparing and submitting financial reports and proposals to donors and grantors.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance preferred.
  • At least 7 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, preferably in a non-profit or mission-driven organization.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of GAAP, non-profit accounting standards, and tax and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience in preparing and financial statements and reports, and leading the annual audit process.
  • Experience in managing budgets and forecasts, and performing financial analysis and modeling.
  • Experience in maintaining internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience in developing accounting staff, and working effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and accounting software, such as QuickBooks or Sage as well as online accounting software solutions and payroll systems.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate complex financial information to various audiences.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and quality, and ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, and ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • A passion for the mission and vision of the organization, and a commitment to its values and culture.
Work Environment Requirements
  • Own transportation is required for trips out of the office.
  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 30 pounds without assistance.
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
  • Climbing: Ascending or descending multiple flights of stairs, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period.

This is a full-time hybrid position, working in Calvary's offices a minimum of two days per week.
