Job Summary

The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in leading our accounting operations, ensuring timely and accurate financial information. This position reports to the Chief of Finance & Human Resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the monthly closing process and generate initial financial reports for review by senior leadership.
  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and general ledger in collaboration with the Accounting and Grants Associate.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports in accordance with GAAP and non-profit accounting standards.
  • Coordinate annual audit preparation and provide supporting documentation to external auditors and regulatory agencies.
  • Support the development of the annual budget process and monitor spending against budget through variance analysis.
  • Maintain effective internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard the organization's assets and ensure compliance with donor and grant requirements.
  • Meet with senior leadership to review financial information and support fundraising and development efforts.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance preferred.
  • At least 7 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, preferably in a non-profit or mission-driven organization.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of GAAP, non-profit accounting standards, and tax and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience in preparing financial statements and reports, leading the annual audit process, and managing budgets and forecasts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and accounting software, such as QuickBooks or Sage, as well as online accounting software solutions and payroll systems.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial information to various audiences.
Work Environment
