The Role

The Principal Systems Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting the development and implementation of telecommunications, professional services, cybersecurity, and IT solutions for Large Systems Integrators, Federal Government, and SLED clients. This position serves as a technical consultant responsible for architecting and designing solutions that meet the business objectives and requirements of our clients.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead projects and provide direction for the design, development, delivery, and maintenance of high-fidelity simulation testing and product verification.
  • Establish high-level requirements and oversee project execution, managing costs, schedules, and technical aspects for both internal and external clients.
  • Assist Lumen Public Sector internal teams in creating tailored solutions and evaluating PRFP and RFP documents, ensuring customer requirements are met with compliant and competitive solutions.
  • Engage directly with government clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal Lumen cross-functional teams.
  • Evaluate new and emerging technologies in networking, cloud computing, edge computing, and security.
  • Conduct hands-on deployment, testing, and integration of innovative technologies in a laboratory setting.
  • Document all lab-tested solutions for future standardization and productization.
  • Present proposed solutions from Lumen in a professional manner.
  • Provide support to installation teams as necessary to clarify service expectations, including diagrams, verbal explanations, and written documentation.

Candidate Profile

  • Active TS/SCI clearance, with the ability to obtain and maintain a CI polygraph if required.
  • Extensive knowledge in Managed and Professional Services, including but not limited to SIEM, EDR/XDR, SD-WAN, Vulnerability Assessment, Security Awareness, and Cloud Security.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written, and presentation).
  • Familiarity with various vendor equipment, including but not limited to Juniper, Cisco, Aruba, and Palo-Alto.
  • Understanding of telecommunications equipment, operations, procedures, and practices.
  • Ability to present project status to customers using various formats such as MS PowerPoint presentations, MS Project schedules, MS Visio diagrams, and MS Excel.
  • Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications or equivalent experience (8 years in telecommunications operations and maintenance, installation, and engineering).
  • Capacity to work collaboratively in a team environment and demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the capability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously.
  • Relevant certifications in Cloud, Security, and Network technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solution Architect, CCNP, JNCIP).
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Minimal travel may be necessary.

Compensation

The starting salary for this position varies based on the employee's primary work location. Compensation is influenced by individual qualifications and typically does not start at the top of the range.

Location-Based Pay Ranges
$164,280 in certain states.
$172,100 in other states.

Specific offers are determined by various factors such as experience, education, skills, certifications, and other business needs.
