Remote Work Eligibility

Arkansas Blue Cross is only seeking applicants for remote positions from the following states:

Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Position Overview

The Recovery Support Specialist will serve as a mentor to clients, showcasing proficiency in personal recovery and effective coping strategies. This role acts as an advocate for consumers, delivering essential information and peer support to individuals. The specialist will engage, motivate, and inspire clients to take part in their recovery journey, regain autonomy within their communities, and promote overall wellness. Additionally, the Recovery Support Specialist will establish connections with community support services. Travel may be required for this position.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.

CERTIFICATION

Possession of one of the three Peer Support Certifications (PR, APR, PRPS) through the Arkansas Peer Specialist Program at the time of application. Maintenance of certification is required throughout employment.

A valid unrestricted driver's license is necessary to facilitate travel across the state.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of six (6) months' experience at or above the core certification level (Core, Advanced, or Supervisor) is required.

Proficiency in computer usage and basic Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) is essential.

Understanding of the recovery process and the ability to facilitate recovery using established mental health protocols is expected.

Familiarity with the signs and symptoms of mental health issues and substance use disorders is crucial.

Knowledge of community resources necessary for independent living and the ability to impart those skills to individuals with substance use disorders is required.

Ability to access and utilize recovery support and educational groups is necessary.

KEY SKILLS & ABILITIES

Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Capability to teach and engage in basic problem-solving strategies to support individual clients in self-directed recovery.

Responsibilities

Act as an educational resource on substance use disorders and recovery for the organization.

Assist clients in collaborating with their case managers or treatment teams to determine the necessary steps for achieving personal goals and self-directed recovery.

Support clients residing outside the immediate local community in identifying and utilizing available Peer Recovery resources.

Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams as an advocate for clients in discharge planning education, addressing barriers, and service transitions.

Empower clients by developing life skills and combating stigma through advocacy and recovery.

Serve as a role model and advocate for clients with substance use disorders, demonstrating effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.

Identify opportunities for engaging clients in forming a supportive peer recovery network and assist them in locating and joining local recovery support groups.

Initiate and maintain contact with assigned clients to assess their engagement and response to services.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Provide treatment and recovery resources, in addition to peer support services for clients, acting as a recovery agent by advocating for recovery-based services to assist clients in daily living.

Utilize tools to aid clients in creating their wellness and recovery plans.

Security and Compliance

This position is classified as level three (3). It is essential to ensure the security and confidentiality of records and information to prevent any potential harm, embarrassment, inconvenience, or unfairness to individuals whose information is maintained. The integrity of information must be upheld as outlined in the company Administrative Manual.

Segregation of Duties

Segregation of duties will be implemented to ensure that errors or irregularities are prevented or detected promptly by employees in the normal course of business. This position must adhere to the segregation of duties guidelines in the Administrative Manual.
