Role Summary:

The Grants Accountant will collaborate with the Grants Manager to oversee and report on activities related to Federal and Foundational awards. Key responsibilities include establishing project details in GMRI's financial systems, monitoring expenses, processing invoices, managing award closeouts, and overseeing allocation processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Oversight: Ensure compliance and monitoring of all Federal and Foundational awards in partnership with the Sponsored Projects Office (SPO), Program Managers, and the Development team.
  • Expense Review: Validate program expenses for adherence to Uniform Guidance and awarding agency standards, as well as GMRI's accounting policies.
  • Invoicing: Prepare and submit monthly invoices to Federal and Foundational funding agencies.
  • Award Management: Collaborate with SPO to track award activities, process extensions, re-budgets, and modifications within GMRI's financial systems.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Stay updated on federal cost guidelines and funding agency requirements while deepening knowledge of GMRI's sponsored funding accounting processes.
  • Project Information Management: Enter and maintain project data in fringe and indirect allocation sets, and run monthly allocations for these expenses.
  • Grant Reporting: Assist in preparing Federal grant reports, including SF-425 reports, as mandated by funding sources.
  • Subrecipient Monitoring: Support monitoring duties for subrecipients.
  • Audit Support: Aid in audit preparations and the SEFA report.
  • Grants Manual Maintenance: Work with the Grants Manager to update and maintain the GMRI Grants Manual.
  • Financial Milestones Tracking: Monitor financial reporting milestones and deliverables.

Financial Information Systems:

  • Collaborate with SPO and GMRI project managers to provide timely and accurate project expenditure information, forecasts, and financial reports.
  • Assist in enhancing information systems for tracking and managing financial data related to projects.
  • Generate reports as necessary to support the management and reporting of metrics concerning GMRI's sponsored project financial health.

Qualifications:

GMRI seeks candidates with proven experience in grants accounting, a foundational understanding of the Uniform Guidance, and strong communication skills. A friendly and professional demeanor, along with a desire to grow in a dynamic environment, is essential.

Specific Qualifications Include:

  • B.A. or B.S. degree in accounting, business, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of two years in non-profit grants accounting and federal financial reporting; three or more years preferred.
  • Familiarity with federal grants and Uniform Guidance cost principles.
  • Experience in reviewing subaward and subcontract agreements is advantageous.
  • Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple deadlines while addressing the daily needs of program staff.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with Blackbaud's Financial Edge system is highly desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to engage with various levels of management and external contacts.
  • Self-motivated with a collaborative approach to problem-solving, strong oral and written communication skills, and meticulous attention to detail.
