Financial Management Specialist

About the Position:
APANO Communities United Fund is seeking an experienced Controller to manage financial accounting across multiple program areas, dozens of funding sources, and an affiliated 501(c)4 organization. The Controller will work closely with the Director of Finance to implement effective and responsible financial management, analysis, and projections, and lead day-to-day finance operations, including functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and grants administration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
- Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
- Oversee semi-monthly payroll processing procedures and policies, and payroll accounting.
- Manage timely monthly, quarterly, and annual closing procedures.
- Assist with audits.
- Work with finance team to create and implement appropriate organizational financial policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in non-profit accounting and financial management.
- Experience managing accounting for grants and contracts.
- Strong analytic, organization and problem solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to communicate key data and financial information to org leadership and staff.
- Ability to supervise team members and delegate to and support them effectively.
- Demonstrated competency in spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, including creation and use of pivot tables.
- Experience using a wide variety of software applications, both web-based and offline, and an ability to quickly learn new programs and applications, and teach others how to use them.
- Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment and prioritize key tasks.
- Sufficient English proficiency, as this position communicates regularly in written and spoken English.

- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field, or commensurate experience.
- Ability to pass background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Sage Intaact accounting software.
- Experience with Quickbooks accounting software.
- Experience working with affiliated 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 organizations.
- Experience with both Microsoft Office and Google Workplace applications.
- Experience with Bill.com or other third party AP processing.
