United Way Miami, Inc. is seeking an Educational Support Specialist to enhance our team. In this role, you will assist the lead educator in developing and executing educational plans, integrating all aspects of the curriculum, and facilitating both large and small group activities for children. You will also help coordinate developmental assessments and health services, which may include family engagement activities, depending on the hours assigned to the position.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Support:

  • Collaborate with the lead educator to create enriching experiences that build on children's existing knowledge.
  • Exemplify appropriate behavior and expectations.
  • Assist the teaching team in leveraging opportunities to enhance children's vocabulary.

Curriculum Implementation:

  • Support the lead educator in delivering a reflective curriculum that balances various learning needs.
  • Address the unique requirements of each child within the group.
  • Demonstrate cultural awareness and respect for diverse backgrounds.
  • Help prepare the classroom environment by organizing materials and supplies ahead of activities.
  • Participate in lesson planning and documentation under the guidance of the lead educator.
  • Understand and apply Head Start performance standards and the Educare model.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as documentation and assessments as needed.
  • Organize and manage classroom photographs.

Engagement with Families:

  • Respond to parents and visitors in a welcoming and professional manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Encourage active parental involvement in classroom activities.

Data Utilization:

  • Review screening and assessment data as directed by the teaching team.

Health and Safety:

  • Supervise children while adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Help maintain a clean and organized environment.
  • Complete necessary documentation for incidents and accidents.

Professional Conduct:

  • Stay informed about best practices in childcare and pursue ongoing professional development.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings and training sessions punctually.
  • Uphold confidentiality regarding children and their families.

Team Collaboration:

  • Foster a cooperative and respectful relationship with colleagues.
  • Participate in classroom and center-wide events.
  • Maintain open communication and collaboration with the teaching team, families, and volunteers.

Physical Requirements:

  • Comply with state and federal guidelines.
  • Be capable of lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Engage actively with children at all times.
  • Respond effectively to various situations and emergencies.
  • Report incidents to supervisors and complete necessary documentation.
  • Maintain alertness and energy to fulfill job responsibilities.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of 45 hours of training as mandated by the Department of Children and Families in Florida. CDA credential must be obtained within one year of employment.

Experience: Minimum of one year working with young children in a group setting.

Technical Skills: Basic proficiency in Internet Explorer, intermediate skills in Word, and basic skills in Excel and Outlook.

Essential Knowledge/Skills: Flexibility and understanding of concepts related to Visible Thinking, Multiple Intelligences, Dual Language, Inclusion, Early Literacy strategies, and Inquiry-Based Learning.
