Job Summary

A Dialysis Nurse Specialist is responsible for delivering high-quality patient care through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role participates in developing and implementing individualized and comprehensive plans of care for each patient, providing direct and indirect care related to dialysis treatment, including pre- and post-assessments, and medication administration during dialysis. The Dialysis Nurse Specialist operates dialysis equipment and supplies in accordance with hospital and departmental policies to ensure expected patient outcomes and documents in the medical record accordingly.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized plans of care for patients undergoing dialysis treatment
  • Provide direct and indirect care related to dialysis treatment, including pre- and post-assessments, and medication administration
  • Operate dialysis equipment and supplies in accordance with hospital and departmental policies
  • Document patient care and outcomes in the medical record
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes
Requirements
  • Graduate of a Registered Nursing program, Bachelor Degree preferred
  • Excellent customer service, negotiation, and communication skills
  • At least 6 months dialysis experience preferred
  • 12 months acute clinical experience as a Registered Nurse required
  • Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Critical Care Unit (CCU), Emergency Room (ER), or Medical Surgical (Med Surg) experience is preferred
  • Clinical patient care experience in a relevant setting, preferred
  • Previous healthcare management experience, preferred
  • RN license in good standing in state of employment or a compact state, if applicable
  • Registered Nurse (RN) required
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support
  • Certification in Nephrology Nursing preferred
  • A Water Treatment Knowledge Exam within twelve (12) weeks of employment
  • A Hemodialysis Knowledge Exam within twelve (12) weeks of employment
  • Certification in Nephrology Nursing preferred, required within 1 year of eligibility to take the exam
