Job Location: Torrance, California
Job Summary: As a Pathology Assistant, you will play a crucial role in the laboratory team, responsible for performing gross description and dissection of human surgical specimens.
Key Responsibilities:
- Obtain appropriate clinical histories for surgical specimens.
- Process surgical specimens.
- Exhibit good judgment in selecting appropriate tissue sections for histologic processing.
- Prepare frozen sections for Pathologists to render a diagnosis.
- Assist in establishing new work methods and procedures.
- Assist in training and orienting new employees.
- Perform clerical and computer-related documentation accurately.
- Dispose chemical and laboratory waste according to established procedures.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment, document PM appropriately, make minor repairs and immediately contact appropriate personnel for problems requiring repairs that are more complex.
- Prepare specimens for transport to reference laboratory or storage.
- Label reagents and supplies with appropriate information.
- Receive, restock, deliver supplies, and notify appropriate personnel of potential and/or actual stock shortages while maintaining appropriate inventory to ensure all required work can be performed.
- Maintain inventory of supplies.
- Demonstrate an active problem-solving attitude & positive approach to all aspects of the job.
- Maintain a safe work area by observing all safety procedures and reporting any unsafe conditions or practices to the appropriate personnel.
- Participate in hospital performance improvement activities (kaizens, lean initiatives) when appropriate.
Requirements:
- Recent Pathology Assistant Experience
- PA (ASCP) Board of Registry to be acquired within six months of hire.
- ASCP certification or equivalent eligibility.
Work Environment: Facility is in Southern California - Los Angeles area
Work Hours: 40 weekly Monday through Friday 8PM to 5PM PST
