Position Overview

The Tax Litigation Associate plays a crucial role in managing various aspects of client cases. This position involves direct communication with clients, guiding them from the initiation of their case to its resolution. The Associate receives valuable support from senior attorneys within the firm, particularly in relation to tax disputes at both federal and state levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a high-quality client experience through effective communication and feedback.
  • Collaborate closely with clients and other legal professionals.
  • Work diligently under the guidance of senior attorneys.
  • Engage with representatives from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and state revenue departments.
  • Analyze and review client financial documents.
  • Conduct case evaluations, risk assessments, and provide counsel on complex tax issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of time spent on each case, meeting a minimum annual billable hour requirement.
  • Oversee daily workflow, ensuring tasks are completed on time and accurately documented.
  • Manage paralegals assigned to cases and delegate tasks to support staff.
  • Prepare legal correspondence and documents for submission to tax authorities.
  • Utilize legal research tools to support casework.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in tax controversy is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Must submit a cover letter expressing genuine interest in tax law.
  • Active Bar license is required.
  • Proficient in Adobe and MS Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Able to work collaboratively and professionally with team members.
  • Familiarity with legal time-reporting and billing practices.
  • Strong technical skills and a willingness to improve.
