Public Health Nurse

Job Summary:
This position is part of the Northwest Region Public Health Division within the State of New Mexico Department of Health. The Public Health Department provides safety net services to the most vulnerable clients within the community, based on set program area processes and protocols in the areas of Infectious Disease investigation and management, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, TB management, Family Planning, adult and child immunizations, Harm Reduction and MOUD services.
We promote health equity and work with our partners to improve health outcomes for all people in New Mexico. This position promotes public health and participates in the role of building healthier communities in New Mexico by providing essential vaccines for children and adults.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing vaccines to children and adults in public health offices and community settings per vaccine program guidelines
- Organizing vaccine outreach in collaboration with community partners
- Promoting public health and participating in its role of building healthier communities
- Integral member of the local Health Office Teams. Provide clinical support/services in the PHO clinic's and outreach sites utilizing protocols/provider orders
- Participating in community and school collaboratives, specifically immunization outreach
- Ensuring adherence to clinical policies, protocols and procedures
- Providing immunizations, preparing and administering medications based on nursing initiated protocols or physician orders
Requirements:
- Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico OR eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements OR Eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico
- Three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification
- Successful completion of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act), and successful completion of CUA (Clinical Laboratory Improvements Act) trainings are required sixty days (60) of employment
- Position will require Blood Borne Pathogen training and successful completion of (CPR course within thirty (30) days as a condition of continued employment
Work Environment:
Services are provided in a clinic, auxiliary and community sites, and occasionally in the client's home with potential exposure to communicable diseases and computer usage for a variety of clinic and office functions.
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage with extended periods of office noise, bending, standing and lifting.
Services are provided in a clinic with diverse racial and ethnic populations, many who do not speak the English language.
Some travel with the occasional overnight stay may be required.
