Position Overview

AECOM is seeking a Traffic Operations Center Supervisor to oversee activities at our Traffic Management Center. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge in Freeway Operations and Control Room procedures, demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement through practical experience and relevant certifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate with minimal supervision, managing both straightforward and complex tasks.
  • Lead workflow coordination to ensure efficient operations.
  • Monitor traffic conditions, utilizing Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) for real-time updates on events and congestion.
  • Act as an emergency dispatcher, coordinating responses to incidents via two-way radio communication.
  • Engage with management and project leads to provide operational updates and address needs within the control room.
  • Support the development and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Assist in creating presentations, technical documentation, and conducting research.
  • Represent the Traffic Management Center in various meetings.
  • Review operational activities for accuracy, providing guidance to staff as necessary.
  • Mentor new hires and existing staff on policies and procedures.
  • Assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of supervisory personnel.
  • Contribute to after-action reports for significant incidents.
  • Engage in special projects and assignments as directed.
  • Assist with planning and executing special events.
  • Support recruitment and training initiatives for new team members.
  • Facilitate community outreach and stakeholder engagement.
  • Provide leadership and direction to team members to enhance performance.
  • Analyze performance data to drive operational improvements.
  • Develop and update training resources.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in traffic monitoring or a related field.
  • Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources effectively.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.
  • Capacity to remain stationary for extended periods while monitoring systems.
  • Proficient in operating computers and monitoring equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or higher in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in a leadership role within traffic management or emergency services.
  • Ability to perform calmly under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills for various interactions.
  • Experience in mentoring and evaluating team members.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and audio/visual technology.
