Northrop Grumman is seeking highly skilled engineers to join our team in Redondo Beach, California. As a Principal Infrared Survivability Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and implementing new materials, technologies, and concepts to enable the most lethal, intelligent, and collaborative systems to penetrate and operate in enemy airspace with impunity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and test infrared signature reduction technologies and materials.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate infrared survivability systems into aircraft.
  • Conduct laboratory and in-flight testing of infrared technologies and materials.
  • Optimize infrared signature reduction designs for stealth while meeting requirements of other engineering disciplines.
  • Take responsibility for achieving customer goals and balancing design in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment.
Requirements:
  • Strong understanding of infrared radiation physics as it relates to aircraft survivability.
  • Experience in infrared signature analysis using test data and/or infrared simulation tools.
  • Experience in laboratory and/or in-flight testing of infrared technologies and materials.
  • Familiarity with Python, C++, and/or other programming languages.
  • Familiarity with NX and/or other computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and technical writing skills for effective collaboration with other teams and customers.
  • A current active U.S. Government in-scope DoD Secret security clearance is required to start, and an active Special Access Programs (SAPs) clearance is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced understanding of infrared radiation physics as it relates to aircraft survivability.
  • Extensive knowledge of thin film material design, fabrication, and qualifications processes.
  • Expertise in the design, planning, and execution of both laboratory and in-flight testing of infrared technologies and materials.
  • General understanding of aircraft radar signatures and radar cross-section reduction techniques.
  • Experience with proposal writing and project cost estimation.
  • Experience in project and/or supply-chain management.
