Role Overview:

In the role of Construction Cost Accountant, you will play a crucial part in overseeing, analyzing, and reporting on the financial expenditures related to specific construction projects. Your responsibilities will include managing and documenting project costs, ensuring precise allocation of expenses, and generating comprehensive financial reports to aid in budgeting and financial forecasting. You will work closely with project managers and other key stakeholders to evaluate cost performance, pinpoint discrepancies, and suggest cost-reduction strategies.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Sage accounting software
  • Understanding of the percentage of completion accounting method
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant accounting experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in accounting within the construction sector

Key Responsibilities:

  • Track and document all expenses related to construction projects, including labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead costs.
  • Aid in the creation and management of project budgets, ensuring accurate tracking of costs against planned amounts.
  • Allocate expenses to specific projects or jobs accurately, ensuring proper distribution according to project phases and requirements.
  • Prepare and analyze detailed financial reports and job cost summaries to provide insights into project performance and profitability.
  • Identify and investigate discrepancies between budgeted and actual costs, offering explanations and recommendations for corrective measures.
  • Review and process invoices from subcontractors and vendors, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project contracts and budgets.
  • Assist in forecasting future project costs and updating budgets based on the current status and anticipated changes.
  • Maintain organized and accurate documentation of all cost-related transactions and project financial records.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to provide financial insights and support decision-making related to project costs.
  • Ensure adherence to accounting standards, company policies, and construction industry regulations regarding cost accounting and financial reporting.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations related to job cost accounting.
