General Overview This role involves overseeing a specific location or segment of a larger operational department. The supervisor will implement business objectives, strategies, and plans while managing daily operational functions. Responsibilities include selecting, mentoring, and developing team members. This position specifically oversees the extraction and transportation of coal, as well as the reclamation processes at the surface mining site. Key Responsibilities- Optimize the use of manpower, machinery, and materials to enhance production efficiency and manage costs effectively.
- Ensure that all equipment is maintained, work is up to date, and the area adheres to regulatory compliance before the commencement of the next shift.
- Conduct daily inspections of work areas to identify and rectify unsafe conditions. Facilitate safety meetings for team members.
- Procure necessary materials, parts, and supplies to maintain operational areas.
- Collaborate and communicate daily work plans with management and other production supervisors.
- Coordinate production efforts with maintenance and safety teams to ensure operational safety and efficiency.
- Lead by example, promoting safety as a core value and ensuring compliance with mine plans, safety regulations, and applicable laws.
- Ensure that all personnel are adequately trained in equipment operation and tasks prior to commencing work. Verify that the AVRP program is understood and executed each shift.
- Foster accountability and develop the skills of production staff through goal setting, delegation, training, and performance evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements, manage grievances, and strive to resolve labor-related issues amicably at the frontline level.
Complete and sign Federal inspection and hazard documentation in accordance with regulations in a timely manner.
QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required. A minimum of five years of progressive experience in mining operations or a comparable combination of education and experience is necessary. Strong understanding of surface mining methods, operations, and procedures is essential. Mine Foreman certification is required. Proven leadership and teamwork abilities to cultivate cooperative relationships across shifts and departments. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are vital for managing and motivating staff while collaborating with other departments. A strong sense of accountability and the ability to instruct and uphold standards among team members is critical. Familiarity with the company's strategic objectives, policies, and applicable laws is important. Proficiency in task prioritization and effective resource management to achieve operational goals is required. Basic computer skills, including email and word processing, are necessary.
Preferred QualificationsExperience with collective bargaining agreements and labor relations is preferred.
