Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Shift Coordinator to join our team at Northwestern Medicine. This is a dynamic and challenging role that requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management
    • Oversee daily unit operations, including staff management and care delivery.
    • Utilize a staff-focused leadership model to promote a positive and productive work environment.
  • Patient Care
    • Prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care to hospitalized patients through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
    • Effectively interact with patients, significant others, and other healthcare team members to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Presents a friendly, approachable, and professional demeanor and appearance.
    • Provides accurate information and timely updates to patients and customers.
    • Communicates effectively with staff, physicians, patients, and families to ensure seamless care delivery.
  • Quality and Safety
    • Monitors and ensures compliance with regulatory standards, including patient life safety standards.
    • Participates in quality improvement initiatives to improve patient satisfaction and outcomes.
  • Staff Development and Engagement
    • Conducts formal staff rounding with assigned staff on a consistent basis.
    • Provides feedback to staff on performance and development opportunities.
    • Participates in the interview process for candidates seeking positions on the unit.
  • Administrative Tasks
    • Manages work schedules efficiently, completing tasks and assignments on time.
    • Coordinates patient placement with the Clinical Placement Nurse in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • 3 years of RN experience
  • Licensed RN in the State of Illinois
  • Telemetry competency
  • Specialty certification such as CV-RN, CHFN, CCRN, PCCN, CNML, NE-BC, etc. required within 2 years
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Consistently works within the framework of the Illinois Practice Act for Nursing and ANA Standards of Professional Nursing Practice
  • Ability to assess and determine situations requiring an interpreter and to use interpreter services effectively
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 or more years in a pertinent clinical specialty
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing, with BSN
  • Cert NRN
