Position Overview:

The Echocardiography Technician I embodies the core values and mission of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, adhering to the organization's ethical standards and compliance guidelines.

This role operates under the guidance of the Resource Coordinator of Cardiac Graphics, focusing on mastering various echocardiography techniques. The technician will develop proficiency in essential procedures, including M-mode, two-dimensional imaging, and Doppler blood flow studies, alongside the necessary calculations for chamber size and valve area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensures timely execution of procedures to maintain an efficient daily schedule, minimizing patient wait times and cancellations.
  • Acquires and applies echocardiographic techniques to competently perform standard procedures within the Cardiac Graphics Laboratory.
  • Facilitates effective communication among referring physicians, departmental staff, nursing units, and hospital personnel to ensure seamless patient and staff operations.
  • Gains expertise in laboratory protocols, including measuring heart chamber dimensions, scanning methods, and preliminary interpretation of echocardiographic studies.
  • Participates in quality management meetings, contributing to case selection and engaging in peer reviews on a regular basis.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Commits to ongoing education in advanced procedures, including color flow mapping, and achieves mastery within established timeframes.
  • Completes required readings related to procedures to enhance understanding and preliminary interpretation skills.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a one to two-year college program in Sonography.
  • Eligibility for ARDMS or CCI Echo registry.

Preferred:

  • ARDMS or CCI Echo registered.
  • At least one year of experience as an echocardiography technician.
