Position Overview:
As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), you will provide essential direct care in a medical-surgical environment, ensuring that the communication needs of patients and their families are met.
Your role will involve assisting patients with daily living activities, delivering fundamental nursing care to those who are acutely ill, and helping to maintain a safe and hygienic environment under the guidance of the registered nurse leading the team or unit.
You will also engage in performance improvement initiatives and adhere to the standards set by regulatory agencies, as well as nursing and hospital policies.Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver basic nursing care to acutely ill patients, addressing both psychosocial and physical needs within the nursing assistant's scope of practice.
3. Exhibit initiative and responsibility in your performance as a nursing assistant.
4. Carry out additional duties, including end-of-shift responsibilities, as assigned within the nursing assistant's scope of practice.
5. Assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge processes of patients.
6. Conduct basic patient care tasks, including morning and evening care activities, tailored to the specific needs of patients across all age groups, including pediatric and geriatric populations.
7. Promptly notify licensed personnel of any patient complaints or changes in condition.
8. Communicate any observed changes in patient status and responses to the registered nurse effectively.
9. Assist with feeding patients and managing fluid intake, using techniques appropriate for the patient's age and condition.
10. Elevate the head of the bed for patient safety as needed.
11. Provide clear explanations to patients and their families prior to administering care, addressing any questions within your scope of practice.
12. Perform treatments and provide services in accordance with established protocols.
13. Maintain professional communication with supervisors, colleagues, and nursing staff.
14. Collaborate with other departments to ensure a comprehensive approach to patient care.
15. Conduct all patient care activities in a manner that prioritizes safety and minimizes the risk of medical errors.
16. Assist nurses with procedures and perform tasks requiring technical skills under the supervision of a registered nurse.
17. Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and the ability to function effectively in high-pressure situations.18. Respond to patients in emergency or distressing situations with compassion and professionalism.
19. Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity, ensuring confidentiality at all times.
20. Foster a collaborative working relationship within the department and with other departments.
21. Adhere to documentation standards and complete required records within your shift.
22. Operate equipment safely and effectively.
23. Supervise and coordinate patient care under the direct oversight of a registered nurse.
24. Implement medical and surgical asepsis during treatments and special procedures.
Qualifications:

1. Maintain a neat and clean appearance in accordance with dress code.
2. Complete annual educational requirements, including mandatory training and competency checklists.
3. Uphold regulatory standards and ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
4. Arrive to work punctually and complete assigned tasks within designated timeframes.
5. Wear identification while on duty and utilize the computerized timekeeping system correctly.
6. Attend required in-services and staff meetings as appropriate.
7. Comply with organizational policies regarding ethical practices and represent the organization positively.
8. Maintain effective communication with physicians, departments, and staff to ensure a cooperative working environment.
9. Adhere to policies and procedures regarding department operations, safety, and infection control.
10. Demonstrate compliance with hourly rounding and respond promptly to call lights.
11. Keep patient room whiteboards updated as required.
12. Utilize time management skills to complete work assignments efficiently.
13. Apply AIDET principles in all interactions.
Regulatory Requirements:
1. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
2. Successful completion of a certified nursing assistant program preferred.
3. Current BCLS (CPR) certification required.
4. A minimum of six months to one year of relevant work experience preferred.
