Job Title: Director of Animal Welfare and Sustainability

Description:

The National Milk Producers Federation is seeking a seasoned professional to serve as our Director of Animal Welfare and Sustainability. This critical role will lead the development and implementation of animal care and welfare programs to enhance the reputation of the dairy industry.

About the Position:

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in animal science, veterinary medicine, or a related field, with extensive experience in dairy production and animal welfare. They will be responsible for building relationships with key stakeholders, including cooperatives, processors, and dairy farmers, to drive industry-wide improvements in animal care and sustainability.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive animal care and welfare programs
  • Collaborate with national cooperatives, checkoff boards, and governance committees to advance industry-wide goals
  • Maintain awareness of national and state-level animal health and welfare regulatory frameworks
  • Provide subject matter expertise on animal health and welfare, antibiotic stewardship, biosecurity, and other on-farm management topics

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in dairy or a related field
  • Doctorate in animal science or veterinary medicine required
  • Excellent public presentation skills and ability to communicate complex ideas effectively
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with ability to navigate multiple interests and priorities

Compensation and Benefits:

  • An estimated salary of $140,000 - $170,000 per year, depending on experience
  • A 7.5 hour workday and hybrid remote schedule
