Job Summary

St. John's Senior Services is seeking a highly skilled Staff Accountant to join our team. As a key member of our Accounting and Finance Department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Accounting Team in performing accounting functions, including auditing and budget review and analysis.
  • Monitor and collect data to assess accuracy and integrity, analyze data, and ensure compliance with applicable standards and systems of internal control.
  • Process and record general ledger transactions, ensuring all entries are accurate and in accordance with Finance policies and procedures.
  • Manage the processing of cash receipts, NYS Assessment reporting, Sales & Use Tax reporting, Labor Productivity, and Cost reporting.
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics by preparing ad hoc analysis and reports for senior management.
  • Review revenue and expense allocations to ensure financial statements are accurately presented.
  • Report on periodic variances and their causes, focusing on spending variances.
  • Prepare and analyze the monthly budget/forecast to actual variance reports per program and department.
  • Perform general accounts analysis and reconciliations for bank statements, fixed assets, employer's benefit costs, accruals, and prepaid expenses.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports, including financial statements, budget performance, productivity, cost analysis, and ad hoc financial reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and annual audit.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and other assigned accounts reconciliation.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance, or Associate's Degree in Accounting with five (5) years of equivalent experience in accounting or a related field.
  • Relevant experience in accounting operations and/or audit required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Ability to interact with elders and care for their needs.
