The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary based on education and experience. The salary range for this position is $24.11/hour - $30.14/hour. Additionally, we provide generous benefits for full-time employees, including:

Location and Work Schedule
This position will be based at a recreation center. The work schedule may vary, including evenings and weekends, depending on operational needs.

With a team of over 400 lifeguards across multiple swimming pools, it requires a dedicated, diverse, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic group of professionals to ensure high-quality aquatic programs, safety, and customer service for the communities we serve. The Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking a skilled and experienced recreation professional to take on the role of Aquatics Coordinator.
In this role, you will design, coordinate, and implement a variety of aquatic programs, classes, and activities while overseeing the daily operations of the facility. This position is crucial in establishing the foundation needed to operate this innovative facility and in developing new programs for community members.
As an Aquatics Coordinator, your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and leading Aquatics programs, including swimming lessons and special events
- Assisting with the recruitment, training, supervision, and coaching of part-time staff, including Lifeguards and Swim Lesson Instructors
- Managing staff scheduling for Aquatics part-time personnel
- Assessing program success and providing feedback to the Aquatics Core Team
- Conducting regular training on emergency procedures for staff
- Delivering professional and prompt customer service to community members and facility users
- Building partnerships with community leaders, organizations, and local schools to create programs that meet their unique needs
- Participating in team meetings and collaborating with other Aquatics Coordinators and Recreation Supervisors
- Representing Denver Parks and Recreation at community events
- Performing routine maintenance and repair of pool equipment in collaboration with maintenance technicians
- Carrying out other related duties as assigned
We are looking for a passionate aquatics professional who can thrive in a fast-paced team environment. The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service and communication skills, with a focus on innovation, efficiency, and safety.
Additionally, the ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in supervisory roles within aquatics staff
- Knowledge of scheduling and staffing pools, including effective lifeguard recruitment strategies
- Strong interpersonal skills, with experience mentoring youth
- Experience in engaging communities in aquatic programming and implementing new initiatives based on feedback
- The ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certifications
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and/or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience: Three (3) years of experience in an organized aquatic program, including monitoring pool equipment and operations.
- Licensure/Certifications: Requires Lifeguard Training Certification, CPR and AED Certifications for Professional Rescuers, and First Aid Certification at the time of application. Lifeguard Instructor Certification and a Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification must be obtained prior to the end of the probationary period. All certifications must remain current as a condition of employment.
