Principal Software Engineer – Healthcare IoT Security Startup

Location: Sunnyvale, CA (in-office presence required at least once a week)

This innovative company focuses on the intersection of IoT, cybersecurity, and healthcare, and is currently experiencing significant growth.

With a workforce of approximately 80 employees, including 25 engineers, the company has tripled its size over the past year and is on an upward trajectory.

Having secured $20 million in funding, the organization is witnessing a rapid increase in revenue and boasts a diverse customer base across the United States and internationally.

The compensation package includes a salary of up to $200k, a 10% annual bonus, and potential equity that could prove to be highly rewarding.

Key Responsibilities:

Utilizing Java and Spring Boot, you will primarily focus on backend engineering, dedicating around 95% of your time to this area, although flexibility exists between 50-100% backend work based on your preferences.

Your tasks will include:

  • Designing, developing, and testing Java backend services.
  • Implementing design patterns to create highly scalable microservices.
  • Driving innovation through new feature conceptualization, design, and product specifications.
  • Mentoring and training software engineers to ensure excellence in design, development, and delivery of exceptional customer experiences.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience, with at least 5 years focused on developing backend services using Spring Boot.
  • Expertise in creating scalable microservices within Docker containers.
  • Experience in developing Java backend services for the Ubuntu Linux platform.
  • A solid understanding of database query performance optimization.
  • Experience in customer interaction for product implementation and issue resolution.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban.
  • A proven track record of continuous professional development.
  • Experience in producing both high-level and low-level design documentation.
  • Integration development experience with Network Access Control (NAC) software such as Fortinet, Cisco ISE, and others.
  • Comfort in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt swiftly to changing priorities and industry focuses.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in the following areas is a plus:

  • Healthcare and IoT domains.
  • Networking protocols.
  • Spring Cloud framework.
  • Postgres, Solr DB, Google Cloud.
  • Network Access Control.
  • Modern software engineering practices such as Continuous Integration and Test Driven Development.
