The Nursing Professional Development Practitioner is a registered nurse with expertise in professional role competence and growth of learners.
This role supports learners within the context and framework of the Nursing Professional Development, Scope and Standards practice as approved by the American Nurses Association.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with nursing leadership to foster and influence competency management, clinical nursing education, professional role development, policy standardization, collaborative partnerships, scientific inquiry, transition to practice, and onboarding/orientation of new colleagues.
- Develop, deliver, and evaluate educational programs to promote continuous quality improvement in the delivery of patient care and services.
- Work with the nursing leadership team to promote the alignment of regional NPD and practice excellence with the Backus Hospital system.
- BSN required; enrollment in a Master's program with degree completion within two years of hire date preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of active clinical nursing experience with at least 1 year of experience in an acute care environment.
- Experience as a preceptor.
- One year of relevant teaching experience preferred, nursing professional development, and/or specialty area preferred.
- Licensed Registered Nurse from the CT DPH obtained prior to hire date.
- NPD or Clinical Specialty Certification within two years of hire/transfer.
- BLS required.
- Demonstrates ability to develop, deliver, and evaluate educational programs.
- Working knowledge of high reliability and LEAN process improvement strategies.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and a commitment to education as a methodology for promoting continuous quality improvement in the delivery of patient care and services.
- Knowledge of the principles/theories of adult learning.
- Knowledge of unit-based orientation plans.
- Strong skills in the process of educational needs assessments.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and strong skills in Excel.
