This role involves serving as an engineer within the Pressure Systems Recertification Group. This division conducts and assesses structural integrity evaluations on piping and pressure vessels to guarantee that aging high-pressure systems can continue to operate safely without exceeding their operational lifespan. These systems encompass wind tunnels and various process and utility piping. The process and utility piping includes cryogenic liquids, hydraulic systems, liquid fuels, and high-pressure gases such as air, nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, silane, and methane.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform code calculations in accordance with national consensus standards such as ASME BPVC Section VIII and ASME B31.3. Familiarity with COMPRESS - Pressure Vessel Code Analysis software is preferred.
  • Conduct backpressure calculations for pressure safety valves (PSV).
  • Engage in non-destructive testing (NDT), including visual inspections and ultrasonic thickness measurements.
  • Carry out inspections and generate inspection reports that document any rejectable findings while proposing modifications to in-service inspection strategies.
  • Provide technical insights for proposed modifications, repair plans, and construction documentation.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required. A BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution is preferred, along with three (3) to five (5) years of relevant engineering experience, or an MS degree with two (2) to three (3) years of experience, or a Ph.D. from an accredited engineering school.
  • Familiarity with ASME, NBIC, ASNT, API, and other relevant national consensus codes and standards for pressure vessel/system design, fabrication, installation, and inspection is essential.
  • Possession of or willingness to obtain ASNT NDT Level II certification is required.
  • Knowledge of non-destructive examination methods (e.g., RT, UTT, PT, MT, EC, etc.) is desirable.
  • Understanding of corrosion prevention and control techniques is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential; the candidate must be a collaborative team player and communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.

Work Environment:
This position primarily involves an office setting (75%), with potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous materials, and industrial facilities during testing (5%).

Physical Requirements:
Ability to navigate all areas of test facilities, including walking, standing, bending, twisting, and sitting for extended periods, as well as climbing, crawling, and lifting up to 35 lbs.

Other Essential Functions:
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Professional conduct that enhances productivity and fosters teamwork is expected. Grooming and attire must be suitable for the role and not pose safety risks. The ability to balance project scope, schedule, and budget is crucial for success. Cooperation with individuals at all levels of the organization and clients is necessary. A valid driver's license is required.
