The Department of Art and Art History, established in 1911, provides a range of degree programs including BA, BFA, MA, and MFA, and holds accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for instructing one or more undergraduate seminars in Art, specifically: "The Artist in Contemporary Culture" and "Medium and Message." These seminars will incorporate a hybrid model, blending seminar discussions with significant studio practice, and are mandatory for all Art students. Participation in departmental meetings and evaluation activities is expected.
The ideal candidate will promote critical analysis and iterative concept development in student assignments. An interest in interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues across various programs within the Department of Art and Art History is highly valued. We are looking for artists and scholars eager to contribute to curriculum development.
Applicants must demonstrate an understanding of the diverse needs of a student body, characterized by a wide range of ages, cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, primary languages, and academic preparations. This should be reflected in the inclusive materials and teaching strategies employed.
All faculty members are required to utilize the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), the designated platform for the educational community. All courses, regardless of format, must be integrated into Canvas to ensure consistent faculty-student engagement.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess a Master of Fine Arts degree or a Ph.D. in Art History, Visual Culture, or a related discipline, with substantial experience teaching studio art at the university level. A proven record of artistic and/or scholarly accomplishments, demonstrated through a comprehensive portfolio, is essential. Familiarity with contemporary artistic practices and theories, as well as the ability to effectively communicate complex texts to undergraduate students, is required. Candidates should also show awareness and sensitivity to the educational aspirations of a multicultural student population.
Compensation
Salary will be commensurate with experience.
