The Department of Art and Art History, established in 1911, provides a range of degree programs including BA, BFA, MA, and MFA, and holds accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). Responsibilities
The Department of Art and Art History at San José State University is seeking part-time educators to instruct undergraduate courses, with a focus on Renaissance, Baroque, or Asian Art History. Additionally, candidates should be prepared to teach foundational survey courses, such as Introduction to Design History (ARTH 72) and/or Introduction to Visual Culture (ARTH 15). Successful candidates will engage with a vibrant department that promotes interdisciplinary collaboration among art history, artistic practice, and art education.
Applicants must exhibit an understanding of the diverse needs of a student body characterized by varied ages, cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, primary languages, and academic preparations, through inclusive course materials and teaching methodologies.
All faculty members are expected to utilize the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), the designated platform for the SJSU community. This ensures a consistent faculty-student connection, as all students are directed to access their courses through Canvas.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Art History or a related field, along with university-level teaching experience, is required. Strong writing abilities and a capacity to guide and evaluate student writing are advantageous. Candidates should also demonstrate scholarly involvement in their area of expertise, as evidenced by a record of presentations and publications.
Applicants should show an understanding of and sensitivity to the educational objectives of a multicultural student population, which may have been acquired through cross-cultural studies, training, teaching, or similar experiences.
Compensation
Salary will be commensurate with experience.
