About Our Job

The City and County of Denver's Auditor's Office seeks a skilled professional to serve as a Senior Policy Advisor for Labor Rights. This role is a vital part of the Denver Labor division, which aims to protect workers, high-road employers, and all Denverites by combating wage theft.

Job Summary

The Senior Policy Advisor will play a crucial role in enforcing workers' basic wage and hour rights in the City and County of Denver. This position will provide key legal support for the office's wage enforcement work by leading investigations, providing legal advice, drafting determinations, planning strategic enforcement initiatives, and extending Denver Labor's relationships with community organizations and vulnerable people.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Executive Director of Denver Labor and the Civil Wage Theft Enforcement Division to evaluate wage theft cases and develop strategic plans for enforcement efforts.
  • Provide legal expertise and counsel on wage enforcement issues, including reviewing appeals of determinations and analyzing legal and factual arguments.
  • Assist in training staff on civil wage theft and minimum wage enforcement issues and related job skills.
  • Review and analyze complex fact patterns related to wage theft cases and engage in strategic planning of Denver Labor's enforcement efforts.
  • Organize and apply Denver Labor's standards, procedures, systems, and guidelines to ensure that investigations are fair, consistent, and transparent.

About You

The ideal candidate will possess a Juris Doctor degree and three or more years of experience performing professional work in the areas of workers' rights, labor organizations, legal aid, or labor/employment law compliance. Familiarity with Colorado wage law and experience working in a group setting are also highly desirable.

Salary and Benefits

The anticipated hiring range is $95,953 - $125,000 depending on education and experience. The City and County of Denver offers a dynamic and collaborative work environment, excellent benefits, and professional development and continuing education opportunities.

Estimated Salary

$105,000 - $120,000 per year, depending on education and experience.
