**Job Summary**
Huntsville Hospital is seeking a skilled Laboratory Assistant to provide technical support to our laboratory team. As a Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory by receiving and processing requisitions and specimens, performing laboratory tests according to standard operating procedures, and managing specimens referred to outside laboratories for testing.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Receive and process laboratory requisitions and specimens in a timely and accurate manner.
- Perform laboratory tests according to standard operating procedures and quality control guidelines.
- Manage specimens referred to outside laboratories for testing, ensuring accurate and timely communication with external laboratories.
- Respond to phone requests and enter laboratory test data into our computer system.
- Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and glassware to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
**Requirements**
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous work experience as a Medical Laboratory Assistant is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
- Ability to remember multiple procedures and policies.
- Willingness to work irregular hours with varying assignments.
- Understanding of safe work practices.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Absolute integrity and accuracy in the identification and reporting of numbers and names.
