Senior Laboratory Associate

As a Research Assistant at Avexo Pharmaceuticals, you will be responsible for conducting molecular biology experiments, developing and optimizing assays, maintaining and troubleshooting cell cultures, and performing protein expression and purification tasks.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting molecular biology experiments, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, cloning, and gene expression analysis.
- Developing and optimizing assays to support ongoing research projects, ensuring high sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility.
- Maintaining and troubleshooting mammalian and/or bacterial cell cultures, following sterile techniques and ensuring cell line viability and quality.
- Performing protein expression and purification tasks, including the use of chromatography, filtration, and centrifugation techniques.
- Preparing buffers, reagents, and media required for assays and cell culture work.
- Analyzing experimental data, maintaining accurate lab records, and presenting findings in team meetings.
- Collaborating with cross-functional team members to support the design, implementation, and optimization of research protocols.
- Contributing to lab maintenance, including ordering supplies, organizing samples, and maintaining equipment.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related field.
- Experience: 1-3 years of hands-on experience in a research setting, preferably within a biotech or life sciences startup.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in molecular biology techniques such as PCR, qPCR, cloning, and gel electrophoresis.
- Experience with mammalian and/or bacterial cell culture, including cell line maintenance, transfection, and viability assays.
- Knowledge of protein purification techniques (e.g., affinity, ion-exchange, size-exclusion chromatography) and experience using related equipment (e.g., AKTA).
- Familiarity with assay development, including ELISA, reporter assays, and fluorescence-based assays.
- Computer Skills: Proficient in data analysis software (e.g., Excel, GraphPad Prism) and able to use standard lab information management systems.
- Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team.
