Job Title: Transmission Models & Special Studies Engineer

About the Opportunity:

FirstEnergy Corp. is seeking a skilled Transmission Models & Special Studies Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for transmission data synchronization functions across our transmission and sub-transmission systems.

Responsibilities:

* Develop and maintain applications, queries, and macros using VBA, C++, and SQL programming languages.
* System modeling and data synchronization of the transmission and sub-transmission lines, system interconnections, transmission and sub-transmission substations and transformers to ensure system accuracy, results, and reliable operation.
* Perform transmission modeling activities with the operating companies, other utilities, non-utility generation, the Regional Transmission Organization, and Reliability Councils.
* Engage discussions and resolutions to modeling discrepancies, questions, and compliance concerns.
* Actively participate on industry working groups and forums to ensure FirstEnergy is viewed as an engaged leader in transmission activities.
* Continually seek opportunities to increase internal and external customer satisfaction and broaden/deepen relationships with neighboring companies, PJM, RFC, and NERC.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical and Computer Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required.
* At least 3 years of engineering experience required.
* Effective analytical and reasoning capabilities, and strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively structure and confidently present information to peers and leadership.
* Ability to work on assignments that may be broad in nature, involving the compilation, preparation, and analysis of various statistical/analytical data, reports, statements, studies, or projects.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Word.
* Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Access, including building queries, designing applications, and linking to other databases.
* Basic understanding of circuit ratings is preferred.
* Knowledge of Energy Management System is preferred.
* Basic research skills required.
* Desire to continue to learn and grow, work across FirstEnergy, and deliver results.
* Ability to deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines.
* Ability to work extended hours or afterhours (e.g. evening, weekends, and holidays) callouts to provide onsite technical and operational guidance in support of system emergencies.
