Key Responsibilities:

  • Specimen Registration: Accurately register specimens to acquire appropriate laboratory accession case numbers in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Problem Resolution: Resolve problems with specimen receipt and appropriateness of test requisitions/orders.
  • Patient Demographics: Accurately monitor pertinent patient demographics and information (e.g., lab test results) to the appropriate designated department.
  • Training and Development: Assist in the training of new clerical/accessioning staff by coaching and mentoring.
  • Quality Assurance: Adhere to the laboratory's Quality Assurance policies and procedures and follow OSHA regulations for PPE (Personnel Protective Equipment).

Requirements:

  • Education: High School or GED
  • Skills: Good communication (both oral and written), organization, detail-oriented, and customer service skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree: Business or related field
  • Experience: Related experience
  • Coding/Billing/Registration/Insurance: Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to utilize hospital and laboratory computer systems for either registration and/or accessioning.
